Solflarewallet staking
In Solflare, a self-custody wallet for Solana, you use native staking to delegate SOL to a validator while retaining control of withdrawals from the stake account. Getting SOL back into your spendable balance through standard unstaking requires deactivation followed by withdrawal.

- Minimum delegation
- 1 SOL in Solflare's staking instructions.
- Stake-account reserve
- Approximately 0.002 SOL in rent, returned when the account is closed.
- Available fee balance
- Solflare recommends leaving at least 0.01 SOL in the main wallet for network transaction fees.
Choose a validator and prepare the balance
Solflare offers its own validator by default; you can select another before confirming. Compare its commission, uptime, and performance history. A validator can change its commission after delegation, so an estimate shown at selection does not fix your future return.
The rent reserve belongs to the stake account, while the SOL for network fees stays in your main wallet. The recommended 0.01 SOL balance is a fee buffer, not a flat charge for staking.
Example: Separating stake from spendable SOL
A planned delegation needs room for the stake-account reserve and an available balance for transaction fees.
For this hypothetical allocation, available wallet balance: 4.786 SOL; planned delegation: 4.75 SOL; assumed stake-account reserve: 0.002 SOL, using the rounded estimate above. The amount left in the main wallet before network fees is
4.786 - 4.75 - 0.002 = 0.034 SOL
.
That remainder exceeds Solflare's recommended 0.01 SOL fee buffer. The exact balance after the transaction depends on actual rent and network fees. With the same starting balance and reserve, increasing the delegation reduces the amount left outside stake by the same amount.
Delegate SOL and check activation
- Open Solflare and select Stake.
- Choose a validator and enter the SOL amount, allowing for the stake-account reserve and the fee balance that will remain in your main wallet.
- Confirm the delegation transaction with your wallet.
Activation follows Solana's epoch boundaries. Solflare describes first rewards two epochs after delegation, allowing for activation and an epoch of earning. Follow the stake account's state to confirm activation and recorded rewards, rather than assuming that either has completed when the delegation transaction is confirmed.
Distinguish compounded rewards from separate payments
Inflation rewards are added to the native stake account once per epoch and compound automatically, without a separate claim. The reward rate varies with network conditions and the validator, and rewards are not guaranteed.
Additional MEV rewards depend on the validator. Solflare describes these as separate payments after an epoch, rather than additions to the native stake, so they do not compound automatically. Review them separately when comparing paid rewards with the amount currently delegated.
Finish unstaking with a withdrawal
For standard unstaking, open the staking section, select the stake account, and choose Unstake. Deactivation follows Solana's epoch schedule. Once deactivation has finished, withdraw SOL to the available wallet balance. This transfer is a separate step; check the available balance for the returned funds.
Instant Unstake is the documented alternative for access without waiting for standard deactivation. Solflare's staking FAQ lists a 2% fee for this route. Standard unstaking fits a planned withdrawal that can wait for deactivation; Instant Unstake offers faster access for that charge. The 2% Instant Unstake fee is distinct from the SOL balance kept for network transaction fees.
